Be Selective

Good morning sweet friends, I missed you all this weekend!
How was your holiday?
Sorry this post is a day late...I have a great reason though, I promise! Maybe I'll do a quick post about it later...
Anyway, on to "Make a Difference Monday"{pretend it's not Tuesday ;-)}
As believers we face an interesting challenge on a daily basis. We live in the world, but are not to be OF the world. "So, how exactly do you do that?" you may find yourself asking.
It's definitely hard at times, but I believe the greatest way you can achieve this through the Holy Spirit's power is to be selective

Everyday is filled with little choices. As a Christian, it is important to be selective about what you do, how you spend your time, who you hang out with, what you watch/read/listen to, etc. It isn't wise to continuously indulge the cravings of your flesh. Because if you do, that is exactly what you will be: worldly.

I think you all know what fruit of the spirit I'm gettin' at, right? The tasty fruit of good ol' self-control
Ooh, that's right, I just said self-control
You know, the one that enables you to stop eating that entire pan of brownies in 2 days {preaching to myself right now, haha}. It is also the one that enables you me to not watch the E! channel and read trash mags all day.
Yes, I used to that.
So, where are some areas that you and I may need to come up higher? A good question to stop and ask yourself during the day is: Is this a good way to be spending my time, energy, resources, or money? Is what I am thinking, saying, or wearing right now glorifying to God?
That does not mean you have to be wearing turtle necks and down-to-your-ankle skirts all the time, girls. You can wear cute, age appropriate clothes--just be selective and make good, godly choices.
So, if I may, I want to challenge you to examine areas in your life that may need to come up a little higher {myself included}...
~ What are you listening to?
~ What are you reading?
~ What is your level of media exposure?
~ What are your financial priorities?
~ How much time is being spent with your family?
~ What is your home life like--what are you doing behind closed doors?
~ What is your diet/food selection like? {ouch}
~ Time usage?
~ How much alone time/time in the word are you giving to God?
What changes do you need to make?
Now don't start sinking into guilt and/or condemnation over areas you may be lacking in. God does NOT remind you of your past failures. The word says once He forgives you, your sin is thrown into the sea of forgetfulness forever. If you are feeling guilty over past forgiven sin, that is from the enemy, and definitely not from God.
It is, however, healthy to examine ourselves daily and see where we may be lacking. We want to be bearing good fruit for the Lord, don't we guys? We want our lives to be a living, breathing example of how good our God is. We want to win lost souls for His kingdom and one of the greatest ways to do that {if not the greatest} is by example.

My intention with this post is to encourage, uplift, and to challenge--not to judge, condemn, or critique. I simply want us to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be.

Let's do it together, friends...for HIM.

Update on Kelly

Thank you to every single person that has lifted loving prayers up for Kelly, her son, and her family. God is answering our prayers and honoring our faith. I am overjoyed to report that she is doing much better.
Praise God!
Her fever is coming down and her heart rate is much lower today {it was originally in the high 130's}. It was also feared that she was getting pneumonia, but her lungs are completely clear today!
Her brain hemorrhaging has stopped. The doctors are saying there may be some brain damage, but wont know for sure until she is more coherent. We are still expecting and thanking God for a full recovery!
They are starting a strong diuretic to try and get some of the excess fluids out of her body today. As of now, she will need no more dialysis.
Her family is very grateful for our prayers and send their love. They ask that we continue to pray for a full recovery. Sweet little Spencer is doing well and is with daddy until mommy is well.
Heavenly Father, You ARE GOOD!
We praise you, we thank you, and we glorify your Holy Name!
Thank you that your word speaks TRUTH and holds life changing power within it's pages.
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray.” (James 5:13)

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” (James 5:14)

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16)
God is answering prayer : )

Attention Prayer Warriors

This precious young woman's name is Kelly.
She is the mother of a 3 month old son, Spencer.
Kelly was hit by a car while still pregnant with Spencer. As a result, she had to receive a hip replacement and was in a great deal of pain. Because of the constant pain her doctors had her on a lot of different pain medications. While trying to work out all of the kinks, they put her on medication that was too strong and she accidentally overdosed this past weekend.
She is in very critical condition
Kelly is on a respirator and had to have 6 hours of dialasis yesterday. When she arrived at the hospital they discovered her kidneys and liver had already shut down. Yesterday, her parents were told not to expect her to last through the day, but she is still hanging on. She is in a great battle for her life.
Kelly hasn't needed anymore dialysis as of today. The good news is that yesterdays dialysis pulled over 90% of the drugs from her system, but she is now having brain hemorrhaging and still has very little urin output.
Though the doctors may say her outlook is grim, I know we serve a God who heals. We serve a God who cares! I am praying and claiming victory on behalf of Kelly tonight.
Will you join me?
Please lift Kelly and her family up to the Lord in prayer. Precious, little Spencer needs his mama.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. God bless you all, my loving friends.

Inexpensive Chair Redo

So, remember how I told you I was working on redoing a few chairs from my kitchen table? Uh, yeah...I finally finished them!

I'm like the queen of procrastination when it comes to these types of projects {especially if the project is out of sight in my basement}.
Look at the before, hahaha!
That's what living with a toddler does to your furniture
Hey, no complaints though...I would have just as happily kept sitting on the dirty chair. Some people in the world have nothing, let alone furniture. Its good to keep things in perspective.
The funny thing about my table is that those black chairs were from the tiny $100 Walmart table we purchased when we first got married. We didn't have the money to get a new one because we chose not to go into debt {using our credit card} over it
I prayed for a new table because we needed more space for our bible study group. God honored that prayer because someone {who asked to remain anonymous} blessed us with the beautiful, brand new table pictured above. Needless to say, we were floored by their generosity.
Is God good or what? : )
  ~ ~ ~
So, the chairs kind of wound up being a family project.

Aww look at my sweet, hardworking boys : ) They are always so helpful to me {melt}. Hubby didn't do all of the spray painting though, I promise! He just started it for me because he's a sweetheart like that. I am such a lucky woman, I tell ya!

To cover the dingy doo-doo seat cushions all I did was plop them on some pretty fabric and cut out a big enough piece to cover those suckers up! Easy peasy.
I don't own a staple gun {seriously need to get one!} so I used the next best thing I had...

Elmer's Craft Bond Spray Adhesive. It worked really well, too!
See...

After I allowed the Elmer's glue to dry a bit, I screwed the seat cushions back onto the chair frames and...
Voila!
We got a whole new look for our kitchen table and it was a totally fun, frugal way to do it.

Sorry it took me 10 years  forever to show you the finished product!
