Baby Keepsake Pillow

Happy Friday everyone! I am so glad it's the weekend. My husband has off Saturday AND Sunday (rare in our home) and I couldn't be more happy about it! We even have 2 children's birthday parties to attend this Sunday, after church. Parker isn't even 2 yet and he's already got more of a social life than me. I find that amusing. :-)

Anywho, I still wasn't quite sure what I wanted to post on this blog, how to get started, yatty yatty yatta. So, here it is...my first REAL post. I'm just going to dive right in if you don't mind. And with that "formal" introduction, I present to youuuu...

My baby keepsake pillow!

You may find yourself asking, "What is up with the monsters and camping/moose fabric?" It makes sense, I promise. I made this pillow for my sister Rachel. It was fabric from some of her favorite outfits that her son (my LOVELY nephew) Ryder, grew out of. It found a happy spot on her reading chair, in her bedroom. Great place for it!

The pillow is special to me too because they were also worn by my son, Parker. Aren't hand-me-downs great? I LOVED those monster jammies!! Rae Rae (childhood nickname) is one of the most generous people I know. God uses her almost everyday to bless me in some way.

These are my sisters and I when we were little (left to right: Rachel, Becky, me).

Becky is also as sweet as pie. God blessed me with two of the world's greatest women as older sisters. I wouldn't be the woman I was today if it weren't for the Lord, my mother, and my sisters. The love of a sister is truly a special bond.

Anyway, back to the pillow!

I had seen online-ads for baby clothing quilts and thought it was a wonderful idea. You just send in your favorite outfits (that no longer fit) to the company, pay WAY too much money for it, and they send you back a beautiful keepsake quilt made entirely out of your child's old clothing. Too cute! I obviously don't make enough money being a stay-at-home-mama to pay other people to make gifts for me. So, I decided to do it myself!

Seeing as I didn't have a sewing machine (and I still don't), I knew a quilt would be out of the question. After all, I only had 2 evenings to put it together because of my typical procrastinating ways. I thought a cute little pillow would be my next best bet.

I hand stitched the entire thing, so please excuse the wonkiness that occurs in some of the patch seams. I like to call it added "charm".

I ran out of time to finish an entire patchwork piece big enough for the back, so I just sewed it on some cute blue polka dotted fabric instead. I actually think it wound up looking a lot better that way anyhow. I threw a few buttons on in random spots to give it a finishing touch, and it was finished!

Needless to say, my sister loved it. I was pleased to give her a personalized gift that she so much enjoyed...just for love :-).

If anyone else makes a baby keepsake pillow, link it to this post. We would love to see YOUR baby keepsake pillow designs!

Have a wonderful weekend!

With LOVE,
